About This Calculator
This calculator computes your total return from a stock investment, combining price appreciation with any dividends received — a more complete picture than price change alone. It also shows the annualized return if you provide a holding period.
How This Is Calculated
Total Return = (Current Value − Cost Basis) + Dividends Received
100 shares bought at $50 now worth $68, plus $150 in dividends, gives an $1,950 total return — a 39% total return on the $5,000 cost basis.
Assumptions
- Does not account for dividend reinvestment timing, taxes, or trading fees.
- Assumes dividends were received but not automatically reinvested into more shares.
