How This Is Calculated
Duration = End Time − Start Time (in minutes), converted to hours and minutes
9:00 AM to 5:30 PM is a duration of 8 hours, 30 minutes (8.5 decimal hours).
Assumptions
- If the end time is earlier than the start time, it's assumed to occur the next day (crossing midnight).
Frequently Asked Questions
Decimal hours (e.g., 8.5 instead of 8 hours 30 minutes) are commonly used for timesheets and billing, since they're easier to multiply by an hourly rate than a minutes-based format.
